Congratulations, you are now a senior in high school. The light at the end of the tunnel is near, or is it? You have school, 4-H and many other extra-curricular activities and now add another very important thing to your “To-Do List”. It is time to begin thinking and working on scholarship applications. Graduation may seem to be months away, but the deadlines for scholarships are approaching faster than you think. Texas 4-H and Youth Development Program Opportunity Scholarships are awarded each year to applicants based on their 4-H experience, academic record and financial need (for scholarships for which it is a prescribed criterion). The Texas 4-H and Youth Development Opportunity Scholarship Program is conducted in coordination with the Texas 4-H and Youth Development Program, the Texas 4-H Youth Development Foundation, and Texas Cooperative Extension. Approximately 170 academically-competitive scholarships will be awarded in the 2007 Texas 4-H Scholarship Program ranging in amounts from $1500 to $15,000 (amount established by donor). If you have any questions about scholarships, please give Kristy Synatschk call at the Extension Office, 468-5543, or send her an e-mail at klsynatschk@ag.tamu.edu. Texas 4-H Foundation Opportunity Scholarship: The Texas 4-H Foundation Opportunity Scholarship application has been released. It is once again 14 pages long and that can be intimidating. To assist you as you fill out this application, District 1 has set a Scholarship Workshop for Tuesday January 16th at 7:00 p.m. at the Texas A&M Research Center in Amarillo. You must RSVP by January 11th, see the attached flyer for details. Please do not take this scholarship lightly; last year over 1.9 Million dollars was given away to 4-H youth based through this process. There are three different scholarships which a graduating senior may apply. Baccalaureate Scholarships - the traditional Texas 4-H Scholarship Program, for students who wish to pursue a Bachelor of Science (BS) or Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree. Technical Certification Scholarships - for students who wish to pursue technical certification offered in the eligible majors/courses of study and from an approved Texas accredited college listed in the scholarship packet. Courageous Heart Scholarships – special scholarships awarded to Texas 4-H members that have overcome extreme obstacles related to medical, family, and/or education and remained an active member of both 4-H and school.
