GUILTY - A plea of guilty indicates that you are guilty of the offense you have been charged with. The Judge

will assess a fine to your case(s). You may be given an extension to pay the fine.

NOLO CONTENDERE - A plea of no contest indicates that you are not admitting any guilt to the offense you are

    charged with, but you are not contesting it. Again, the Judge will assess a fine to the case.

Note: On a plea of guilty or nolo contendere, the Judge will listen to any explanation you have as to why you were cited for the offense, however, he does not have the authority to just dismiss the case. The Judge will assess the fine according to the circumstances. You may appeal the decision of the Court after the fine has been assessed. The proper appeal paperwork will be due in the office within ten days.

Under certain violations, you may have the right to take a driving safety course to have the ticket dismissed.

NOT GUILTY - A plea of not guilty indicates that you are not guilty of the offense and wish to go to trial.

On a plea of not guilty, the Judge cannot listen to any explanation or circumstances. It is

improper for the Judge to listen to your side of the case or the State’s side of the case until

the case goes to trial. On a plea of Not guilty, you will be required to post a $200.00

Appearance bond. Normally the bond is a personal recognizance bond and no money is

required. You may request a trial by the Court or by a Jury. You may represent yourself or

have an attorney represent you.

Note: On a plea of not guilty you may lose your right to take a driving safety course.

If you do not enter a plea, the Court will enter a plea of Not Guilty and you must appear for trial.
