The title must be transferred in the County of the purchaser, seller or the lienholder.
In order for a title to be transferred it must be free of all liens or the purchaser will have to
assume responsibility for the existing lien.
TEXAS TITLE TRANSFER OF TITLE
· A Texas title with the signature of the recorded owner(s) on the back of the title seller’s line and the signature of purchaser(s) on buyer’s line.
Date of sale on back of title
Current odometer reading required on any self propelled vehicle ten years or less in age
An Application for Texas Certificate of Title form with the recorded owner(s) signature
Purchasers proof of insurance in purchaser’s name.
OUT OF STATE TITLE
Requires the same information on the out of state title as a Texas title.
Bill of sale from the owner on the title or a dealer if the Application for Texas Certificate of Title is not available.
.Texas vehicle safety inspection form (green form)
Proof of insurance in purchaser’s name.
If the recorded owner or purchaser cannot sign the necessary documents there will be other required information needed. Please contact your Tax Assessor’s office.
REQUIRED FEES:
Texas title fee of $28.00
Sales tax (6 1/4%) of net sales price or gift tax or even trade fee
Registration fee or a $2.50 transfer fee if it has a current sticker.
HOW TO REGISTER A TEXAS TITLED VEHICLE
The owner of the vehicle must register their vehicle in their County of residence.
They need proof of insurance on the vehicle they are registering.
Trailers do not require proof of insurance.
Registration renewal if available, if not the vehicle’s license number or VIN (vehicle identification number) and driver's license.
Registration fee for one full year.
HOW TO REPLACE A TEXAS LICENSE PLATE OR CURRENT WINDOW STICKER.
If replacing the license plates take any existing plate to the Tax Office for a full
set of new license plates.
If replacing the current window sticker you will need to supply the Tax Office with
the license plate number or VIN number.
REQUIRED REPLACEMENT FEE: $6.30
